The Dominican Convent of Santa Maria del Soccorso in Caccuri has been restored and reopened as a centre for training and territorial planning. The historic building now hosts a second-level Master in Cultural Heritage Management and the Valorisation of Villages and Interior Areas, directed by Università Medea.
Mayor Luigi Quintieri welcomed the reopening, saying: "After decades of abandonment this wonderful building returns as a centre of culture and knowledge", and expressed the intention to create a museum dedicated to local history and traditions. Ferdinando Verardi, scientific director of the Master, highlighted the project as a good practice of local regeneration that reconnects the community with a restored historic asset.
Hosting teaching activities inside the convent is expected to strengthen the link between education and local development, encouraging a steady presence of students and experts and new growth opportunities for Calabria's interior areas.
