Borgo Verde in Conegliano: redevelopment plan for the former Zanussi site

The Municipality of Conegliano has presented the regeneration plan for the former Zanussi area, named Borgo Verde. The initiative aims to return a strategic area near the historic center to the community, combining open spaces, public services and environmental sustainability measures.

What the plan includes

  • Public green: more than 2 hectares allocated to parks and community areas;
  • Collective spaces: equipped zones for events, cultural activities and civic services, with buildings for public functions;
  • Mobility and parking: an increase in parking spaces and improved links to main transport hubs;
  • Education and sports: space for a school hub, a technical institute (ITS) and sizable sports facilities such as a gym;
  • Sustainability: design solutions including photovoltaic roofs, green façades and pedestrianised areas to enhance environmental quality.

Urban concept

The design team envisions Borgo Verde as a new urban segment that enhances the relationship with the historic centre and the Prosecco hills. A large public square is planned at the neighbourhood’s core, intended as a meeting place for events, cultural production and institutional uses.

Why it matters for small towns

This project is a clear example of how targeted redevelopment of disused areas can strengthen historic centres and provide tangible services to locals. It aims to revitalise the urban fabric, attract new residents and support the local economy through shared spaces and public functions.
