The Castello di Rivoli presents the first solo museum exhibition in Italy by Chilean artist Cecilia Vicuña. Titled El glaciar ido (The vanished glacier / Il ghiacciaio scomparso), the show centers on a monumental installation that spans the museum's Manica Lunga: a horizontal quipu suspended in raw white wool, connecting Andean heritage, spirituality and contemporary environmental urgency.
Vicuña — whose multidisciplinary practice blends poetry, activism and craft — developed the project through a collaborative process that engaged local communities. Alongside the suspended quipu, a second, participatory weaving was created from plant-based materials gathered via an open call.
The exhibition offers a clear example of how ancestral techniques and contemporary art can interrogate pressing issues: from the decline of emblematic species such as the condor to the disruption of hydrological cycles. Vicuña's quipu functions as a device of collective memory and care, inviting visitors to reflect on environmental fragility and alternative knowledge systems.
