iKonica Art Gallery in Milan hosts Dancing with Sand, the German artist Bernd Caspar Dietrich’s first solo exhibition in the city. Open from 30 March to 11 April 2026, the show gathers roughly 25 works that highlight the artist’s material-driven practice.
For decades Dietrich has operated on the border between painting and sculpture: his pieces read as constructed surfaces rather than traditional paintings, built with layers of sand, marble dust, cement, clay and pigments. Additions such as luminescent powders, gold and glass fragments increase the works’ sensory impact and their interaction with light.
The exhibition features works from key series including Urbanisten, BetonGold and Metamorphosen, investigating transformation, matter and the tensions of urban life. The result is a visually intense body of work that prompts reflection on identity, resources and perception.
Born in 1957 in Eilenburg, Dietrich is based at the artpark Hoher Berg near Düsseldorf. His works are held in private collections across Europe and North America and have been traded in international art market venues.
