The Botanical Garden of Rome is presenting API-LOGO, a monumental sculpture by artist Cyril de Commarque designed to function as a home for wild bees and other pollinators. The work is placed in a sheltered clearing, highlighting the intersection of art, nature and scientific research.
API-LOGO appears as a large hollow beehive suspended among trees. The exterior is crafted from wood shaped with robotic tools and then charred to create a dark shell, contrasted by a yellow core filled with bamboo canes that provide nesting sites for wild bees. The project also includes traditional ground hives and observation points for study.
The installation aims to raise awareness about the vital role of pollinators in ecosystem health and food security. Wild bees and butterflies are essential pollinators for many plants; initiatives like API-LOGO connect artistic practice with scientific research to promote urban biodiversity and protect pollinating insects.
Cyril de Commarque is a French artist based in Rome. His interdisciplinary work blends nature, performance and photography, often exploring human-environment relationships through organic materials and site-specific interventions.
