Anima Errante: Asako Hishiki solo show in Bozzolo

From 16 May to 21 June 2026, Palazzo dei Principi – Pinacoteca Don Primo Mazzolari (via Arini 2, Bozzolo) presents Anima Errante – たましいの散歩 Tamashii no Sanpo, a solo exhibition by Japanese artist Asako Hishiki, curated by Matteo Galbiati and Raffaella Nobili. The event is promoted by the Municipality of Bozzolo in collaboration with the Don Primo Mazzolari Foundation.

The exhibition follows Hishiki’s recognition as the Popular Jury winner at the XVI Premio d’Arte Città di Bozzolo – X Biennale Don Primo Mazzolari (2023) and is included among official events for the 160th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Italy and Japan.

  • Opening: 16 May 2026, 17:00. At 18:00 the concert Anime consonanti with Aira Hara and Noriaki Yamamura.
  • Exhibition period: 16/05/2026 – 21/06/2026. Closed on 2 June.
  • Hours: daily 15:30–18:00; Friday and Saturday also 10:00–12:00.
  • Admission: free.
  • Workshops: Saturday 13 June—three experiential workshops on Japanese artistic techniques with Kanaco Takahashi, Asako Hishiki and Kiyofumi Kobayashi (by reservation).

The exhibition is arranged across seven immersive spaces that address identity in motion, memory and transformation. The swallow, a recurrent motif in Hishiki’s work shown at the 2023 prize, acts as a metaphor for migration and the formation of identity through transit.

Techniques and materials: Hishiki’s practice bridges Japanese tradition and contemporary language. Her reinterpretation of mokuhanga (Japanese woodblock printing) uses contemporary materials and processes to achieve delicate yet visually powerful results.

A comprehensive monograph on the artist will be published by Vanillaedizioni on the occasion of the show, featuring critical essays and a wide iconographic repertoire spanning twenty years of research.

Educational program: guided visits, school tours and hands-on workshops are scheduled during the exhibition period and can be booked through the Mario Miglioli Municipal Library.

Useful contacts:

This exhibition offers a concise but immersive overview of how traditional Japanese techniques like mokuhanga can be rethought within contemporary artistic practice.
