Ancona approves budget move to shore up local transit and fund cultural and tourism projects

The Ancona municipal council adopted its first budget variation of 2026, a €3.6 million package combining financial restructurings and targeted allocations. The plan includes the renegotiation of part of the town's loans with Cassa Depositi e Prestiti, expected to free about €2.5 million. Portions of the funds were directed to local public transport and to cultural and tourism initiatives.

Measures for public transport

• Extension of Conerobus' urban contract until September to ensure service continuity;
• €600,000 set aside to cover Conerobus' 2024 budget shortfall;
• An additional €350,000 allocated as support to address operational imbalances, while plans for recapitalization remain open.

The administration cited uncertainty tied to rising fuel costs and the pending regional tender for TPL as reasons for the emergency measures.

Culture and tourism allocations

• €120,000 for association grants;
• Similar amounts for Popsophia and the AMAT programme;
• €90,000 for the summer arena in Piazza Cavour, €70,000 for the picture gallery and €85,000 for the amphitheatre;
• Funds for events at Il Piano, the summer series at Cardeto and other local projects;
• Tourism items: €30,000 for the central IAT desk, €25,000 for Portonovo, €25,000 for guided tours and €8,000 for village maps.

Other entries in the package reflect accounting moves within the public works plan and modest increases for projects such as the redevelopment of Piazza della Repubblica and work at the Polveriera in Castelfidardo. Officials say the measure also aims to kick-start preparations for Ancona's role in the 2028 cultural calendar, while noting immediate concerns about energy costs and the financial sustainability of local transit services.
