Exhibition: “Altissimu, onnipotente, bon Signore. The Canticle of the Creatures and the flower of Franciscan mysticism”

The Certosa di Firenze hosts an exhibition inspired by the Canticle of the Creatures on the 800th anniversary of Saint Francis’ composition. The show presents works by Serena Nono and Nicola Golea in the Pinacoteca di Pontormo, offering an artistic and contemplative interpretation of the Franciscan text.

Opening: Sunday 26 April 2026, 17:30. The exhibition continues until Sunday 24 May 2026.

Programme and artistic focus

The inauguration features pianist Francesca Breschi and harpist Andrea Solinas, who will accompany readings from the Canticle, texts by Franciscan mystics and selections from the Laudario of Cortona.

  • Serena Nono: known for portraits and figures with mystical overtones and a strong engagement with sacred art.
  • Nicola Golea: presents landscapes and portraits that capture inner life, from nocturnes to luminous dawn scenes.

The exhibition places female mystical figures — from Catherine of Siena and Bridget of Sweden to Clare of Assisi and Simone Weil — in dialogue with the artists’ works, tracing a path of spiritual waiting and reflection relevant to contemporary times.
