Internships start in Pompeii for students of the Botticino Restoration

Training internships at the Archaeological Park of Pompeii

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii has kicked off a curricular internship program for students enrolled in the Conservation of Cultural Heritage degree at the Botticino Restoration School. The initiative, established through an agreement with Ales S.p.A. and Valore Italia, provides hands-on experience within active sites of the archaeological area.

Key features of the program:

• Duration: seven-week cycles for each group;
• Workload: each trainee will complete 250 hours during the internship;
• Participants: a total of 14 students, with the first group already on site;
• Practical tasks: monitoring and maintenance of plasters, frescoes, mosaics and other decorated surfaces;
• Supervision: daily guidance from a multidisciplinary team (archaeologists, architects, conservators, engineers and skilled workers) and Ales S.p.A. staff.

Trainees will work in one of the most complex and prestigious conservation contexts worldwide, effectively using Pompeii as an open-air classroom. The program aims to strengthen technical skills, observational ability and professional responsibility.

The partnership between public bodies and specialized firms reinforces the Archaeological Park of Pompeii’s role as a hub for research, conservation and continuous professional training, integrating skill transfer with heritage protection practices.
