On 16 May 2026 the International Chess Museum “Giovanni Longo” was inaugurated in Marostica, housed within the rooms of the Castello Inferiore. The new venue is intended as a cultural hub dedicated to the history, practice and promotion of chess, aimed at enthusiasts and a broad public alike.
The exhibition is arranged across four themed rooms illustrating the origins, spread and regional variants of chess. Highlights include:
The museum offers several accessibility features: tactile maps for visually impaired visitors, adjustable lighting for sensory needs, informational videos in Italian Sign Language (LIS) and free audio guides accessible via QR code in Italian and English. A Donors' space encourages private collectors to participate in new acquisitions.
The inauguration day included events promoting chess culture, such as a youth talent competition and a meeting with a FIDE Master. The museum plans to host tournaments, educational workshops and seminars to support both research and lifelong learning.
Funded in part through national recovery resources and municipal contributions, the museum aims to become a reference point for chess-related cultural initiatives, with a focus on inclusivity and youth engagement.
