Many Italian cities have already opened their Christmas markets, each full of surprises. For those seeking an alternative experience, Aosta once again hosts the "Marché Vert Noël," which transforms Piazza Chanoux into a colorful alpine village. Let’s discover all the activities planned for this year!
Marché Vert Noël: a Christmas market that reinvents itself
The 17th edition of Aosta’s Christmas Market was inaugurated on November 22, 2025. It will remain open every day until January 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., except on December 25 (3:00–8:00 p.m.) and January 6 (11:00 a.m.–8:00 p.m.). Throughout its history, this event has always adapted and reinvented itself: this year it takes place for the second time in Piazza Chanoux, but in the past it has been hosted in different locations, including Piazza Severino Caveri and the Roman Theatre.
A distinctive feature of the Aosta Market is undoubtedly its evocative setting. Aosta is a city with a millennia-old history: founded in 25 B.C. under the name Augusta Praetoria. Thanks to the quantity and quality of its preserved Roman and medieval monuments, it was a finalist for the title of Italian Capital of Culture 2025.

In 2025, Marché Vert Noël was also awarded, along with 11 other Christmas markets, the recognition of "Excellent European Christmas Market," a prize given to the best markets in Europe. Its strengths were identified as "high quality, tradition, hospitality, sustainability, and cultural diversity," as well as "a testimony of commitment, creativity, and the unique atmosphere it offers to visitors from both Italy and abroad, generating an unforgettable Advent experience."
The Christmas atmosphere in the square: stands, chalets, lights
In the stands set up in the square, visitors can purchase the finest local crafts and watch artisans transform logs of wood into surprising artistic creations in just a short time. Children can also join in by creating small decorations for the Christmas tree!
Ceramic or wooden works, antiques, clothing, Christmas ornaments, scented candles, soaps, hemp, felt, or wool fabrics are just some of the items available at the various stands, perfect as original gift ideas.

This year, Piazza Chanoux will host 48 wooden chalets, two of which are dedicated to food service. Here you can taste the region’s main culinary specialties: Lardo di Arnad DOP, Prosciutto Crudo di Bosses DOP, Fontina cheese, local pastries, mulled wine, and much more.
The magic of Christmas also shines through the lights: decorations illuminate the entire city center, and Piazza Chanoux features a large tree with over 7,000 lights and 400 glowing spheres. Light shows and projections are also scheduled at Lussu Park.
Other initiatives supporting city tourism
Winter is tourist season in Aosta, and this year, alongside the market, the city offers many opportunities to visitors.
December 2025 marked the opening of the new Pila-Couis cable car. In just 15 minutes, you can reach a unique panoramic point to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Alps: the Stella di Pila, located at 2,700 meters above sea level. From there, you can admire the highest peaks of the Aosta Valley and beyond: from the Matterhorn to Monte Rosa, Mont Blanc, and Grand Combin.

For those who want more than just sightseeing, the Pila cable cars provide easy access to local ski resorts. Mark this date: December 5, 2025, when the Pila ski station opens!
It offers 70 km of ski slopes, ranging from 1,540 meters at Plan Praz to 2,750 meters at Couis 1, with a total hourly capacity of 23,225 people. Skiers of all levels, from beginners to experts, are welcome.
Children can have fun at the Fun Park Chacard in Pila. Located next to the Aosta-Pila cable car, the park organizes numerous activities in a safe environment, with snow tubing, bobsled, and sledding tracks. There is also a side area reserved for younger children, with games and inflatable structures suitable for their age.
Additionally, near the city center, from November 15 to January 11, 2026, a natural ice skating rink measuring 10x30 meters will be open.
How to reach the Aosta Christmas Market
From Aosta’s city center, the market is easily reachable on foot (from Piazza della Repubblica to the west and Piazza Arco d’Augusto to the east) in 7–9 minutes.
By car, from Turin, take the A5 motorway and exit at Aosta Est; from Milan, take the A4 motorway to Santhià, continue towards Aosta on the E25 link road, then enter the A5 towards Aosta.
Note: Marché Vert Noël is located within a restricted traffic zone. Free parking is available at Via Mazzini (11 minutes’ walk from Piazza Chanoux) and Piazza Ducler (17 minutes’ walk).
Aosta can also be reached from Milan, Turin, and some locations in France and Switzerland by bus, with the station located on Via Carrel.
