In his first solo exhibition in Italy, Danish artist Villiam Miklos Andersen probes comfort as a constructed outcome of organizational, architectural and regulatory systems rather than a natural state. The works reveal how well‑being can operate as a mechanism of control that shapes movement, relationships and behaviour in urban and workplace environments.
The exhibition title evokes the notion of the "smooth operator": a subject streamlined for global circulation—mobile, adaptable and unmoored. Andersen uses this figure to explore the simultaneous presence and absence demanded by contemporary logistics and to contrast it with queer modes of attention that introduce lateral, non‑functional ways of relating in built environments.
The show is staged across three levels, arranged like a multi‑storey corporate space:
Works such as Just‑in‑time (2025) reference lean production principles and connect capitalist logistics with cruising as an alternative spatial knowledge rooted in mutual perception and shared codes.
Why visit: the exhibition provides a critical, sensory account of how architecture, standards and infrastructures produce our experience of care and comfort, suggesting that welfare and war can occupy the same designed space.
Practical information and tips:
Andersen's solo show invites visitors to reconsider how comfort regimes orchestrate behaviour and movement in contemporary cities.
