animism sings anarchy is the commissioned work for the Lithuanian Pavilion at the 61st International Art Exhibition in Venice. Eglė Budvytė presents a multichannel film installation that pairs 16mm footage transferred to 4K with vocal performativity and choreographic sequences inspired by animist practices and Neolithic rituals.
The project translates archaeological materials and anthropological research into performative sequences: choreographies evoking trance and collective states, and 3D-printed anthropomorphic figurines used as devotional points for miniature ritual gestures. Parts of the film were shot in south-eastern Italy, creating a dialogue between past practices and contemporary expressions through image and movement.
Visitor notes: the installation asks for attentive viewing to follow the temporal and spatial relationships of the work. Check venue opening times and access information with the exhibition spaces or organisers, especially for scheduled screenings or guided visits.
Practical tips: arrive early to allow for the full projection, verify entry rules and plan your visit according to the work's duration.
