Táifinakpo’: Gisela McDaniel's solo exhibition at Galleria Poggiali

On view in Milan, Táifinakpo’ is the artist’s first solo show in Italy. Opened on 9 April 2026, the exhibition is hosted by Galleria Poggiali and runs through 6 June 2026.

What to see

The exhibition comprises thirteen works conceived for the space, mixing painting and multimedia elements. Highlights include:

  • three large-scale oil paintings;
  • ten works on paper;
  • portraits of female and non-binary figures, often of African American, Indigenous or Latin American descent;
  • use of natural materials such as stones and shells applied to painted surfaces;
  • audio excerpts from interviews that give voice to the portrayed subjects.

Why visit

McDaniel’s practice bridges traditional painting and oral narrative to address colonization, migration and intergenerational trauma. The tactile elements and recorded voices create an immersive, reflective experience that amplifies often marginalised memories.

Title meaning

Táifinakpo’ comes from the Chamorro language and translates as “without end,” evoking a non-linear sense of time and the persistence of memory across generations.
