Capitoline Superintendency: museum events and openings in Rome from 1

Cultural calendar: 1–7 May 2026

The Capitoline Superintendency offers a week of cultural activities including exhibitions, guided tours, book presentations and hands-on workshops in civic museums and archaeological areas. Key events and practical details are listed below.

  • 1 May: civic museums and archaeological areas are closed for Labour Day.
  • 2 May: opening of the exhibition Ettore Scola. Non ci siamo mai lasciati at the Museo di Roma, Palazzo Braschi (the exhibition is on display until 13 September 2026).
  • 3 May: first Sunday of the month with free admission to civic museums and many archaeological sites, including the Area Sacra of Largo Argentina, the Circus Maximus and the Imperial Fora; each site follows its own opening and last-entry times.
  • 5 May: events at the Museo di Roma, Palazzo Braschi, and the Museo Napoleonico, with book presentations and a performance commemorating Napoleon's death.
  • 6 May: the "Books at the Museum" series at the Museo di Roma, Palazzo Braschi, featuring the presentation of the volume Musei e contesti.
  • 7 May: sessions at the Museo Civico di Zoologia focusing on the malacology collection and a live workshop at the Pinacoteca Capitolina titled "How a painting is born"; guided tours led by young artists from the Rome Academy of Fine Arts are also scheduled.

The ongoing program "Rome, your cultural guide" continues with themed visits and local itineraries.
