Artist Curtains: "Shamorra" by Gianni Asdrubali

Teatro Cartiere Carrara presents Shamorra, a newly created curtain by Gianni Asdrubali: a large-scale painted fabric conceived as an original intervention within the theatrical space.

Key features of the work and project:

  • Size: approximately 15 m x 6.5 m, painted directly onto the curtain fabric by hand.
  • Technique: broad, rapid gestures adapted to the monumental format; non-conventional tools (including a broom) were used to achieve specific textures and strokes.
  • Process: executed in about five hours with the help of one assistant, emphasizing immediacy and frontal presence.
  • Artistic approach: Asdrubali's work explores the relationship between form and space; Shamorra amplifies chromatic and rhythmic motifs from his practice since the 1980s into a monumental scale.

This project is part of the Sipari d’artista series, which since 2005 has commissioned site-specific curtain works by leading Italian artists.
