On Wednesday 8 April 2026 at 17:30 the V. Cianfarani auditorium of the La Civitella Archaeological Museum will host the lecture titled “Writing history in 17th‑century Abruzzo”, part of a conference series organized by the cultural association Teate Nostra in collaboration with the Department of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences and the Department of Socio‑Economic, Managerial and Statistical Studies of the University G. D’Annunzio Chieti‑Pescara.
Professor Giuseppe Mrozek (modern history) will provide a historical framework for Abruzzo and Chieti in the seventeenth century, focusing on institutional developments, cultural elites and the political uses of history by local intellectuals who researched and narrated the origins of their towns.
Professor Alister Filippini (Roman history and Latin epigraphy) will examine how these local narratives engaged with the more distant Italic and Roman past, offering hypotheses on how authors connected a remote past with the contemporary realities they lived in.
The lecture is part of the series “Chieti before Chieti – Chieti and the intellectual Abruzzo”, running from 8 April to 3 June 2026 at the V. Cianfarani auditorium. The event is aimed at audiences interested in local history, historical research and the relationship between academia and cultural heritage.
