Retouche: solo exhibition by Sandro Bracchitta
When: 28 May 2026, opening at 18:30
Where: PROSA_contemporanea, Rome
PROSA_contemporanea presents Retouche, a solo exhibition by Sandro Bracchitta curated by Alberto Dambruoso and Loredana Rea. The project showcases "retouchéd" prints: unique pieces that combine traditional intaglio technique with subsequent manual reworking to create one-of-a-kind artworks.
What to expect
- Prints enhanced with flocking, earths, pastels, pigments and gold leaf.
- Use of volcanic ash as a material element connected to ancestral memory.
- Recurring motifs: chairs, bowls, houses, boats, seeds, branches and volcanoes—archetypal symbols with timeless resonance.
- A shift from engraved sign to material layering that often approaches installation.
Bracchitta's method intentionally subverts the reproducibility of printmaking: after the matrix-based phase, the artist applies materials that negate serial repetition and grant each work unique presence. The exhibition traces the dialogue between calcographic discipline and free material exploration, producing works meant to be lived rather than merely observed.
