Spring of the Oases: nature events across protected areas

From 25 April to 2 June 2026, the Spring of the Oases returns with a nationwide program that activates over 100 WWF-managed protected areas in Italy. The initiative provides chances to explore habitats and emblematic species, join workshops and enjoy outdoor experiences suitable for families, schools and nature enthusiasts.

Why attend

The WWF Oases cover more than 24,000 hectares from the Alps to the Sicilian coasts. These sites host conservation, research and environmental education activities that deliver tangible ecosystem services: clean water, CO2 absorption, protection from extreme events and accessible natural spaces close to communities.

Program and main activities

The program is diverse and aimed at varied audiences. Typical offerings include:

  • Guided walks to learn about habitats and flagship species;
  • Family workshops and educational activities for children and students;
  • Meetings with biologists and volunteers to learn about conservation projects;
  • Outdoor experiences such as Mediterranean scrub walks, birdwatching and forest trails;
  • Citizen science activities and bioblitz events to support local monitoring and research.

Sample events (first week)

The opening week features many activities concentrated over the weekend. Highlights include releases of rehabilitated animals, themed walks on wild herbs and pollinators, visits to riverine woodlands and coastal routes linking forest to sea. Each oasis offers a local schedule with events from the north to the central and southern regions.

Tips for visitors

  • Check the specific oasis calendar for dates and booking information;
  • Wear appropriate outdoor clothing and hiking shoes for trails;
  • Follow instructions from volunteers and guides to protect species and habitats;
  • Bring water and reusable containers to minimize waste.

The Spring of the Oases is a practical opportunity to reconnect with Italy's protected nature, learn about conservation efforts and actively contribute to biodiversity protection.
