Pompeii: Sustainable Development Festival at the Archaeological Park

The Archaeological Park of Pompeii hosts two days of events for schools, associations and citizens as part of the tenth edition of the Sustainable Development Festival, aimed at integrating agriculture with heritage protection.

Events take place in two areas of the site: the Parvula Domus, the park's cultural and social farm, and the experimental fields outside the walls, where techniques suited to the Vesuvius microclimate are trialed.

  • 20 May 2026, 10:00–13:00 – Roundtable on social and environmental sustainability at the Parvula Domus; followed by practical workshops in educational gardening, didactic beekeeping and outdoor creative and motor activities.
  • 21 May 2026, 10:00–13:00 – Guided visit to the experimental fields with CREA experts focused on sustainable farming techniques; students from the "M.P. Vitruvio" High School (Agriculture track) will join with practical demonstrations.

Field trials include recovery and selection of traditional crops suitable for the area, such as spelt, fennel, chickpeas, onion and pumpkin. The aim is to identify resilient varieties and define farming practices that balance production and archaeological conservation.

The initiative is organized in collaboration with CREA and promotes dialogue between communities, researchers and site managers. The program includes theoretical sessions and hands-on experiences for varied audiences.

Participation and information: to register or get details, contact the offices of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii or the event organizers and check for any program updates before visiting.
