Paper/Northern Lights is a project conceived in 1971 by Gianni Pettena and now shown in the configuration designed for Milano Art Week. The installation converts a hall at BiM in the Bicocca district into a dynamic landscape of long suspended paper strips that continuously change according to visitors' movements.
This installation rejects the notion of art as an object to be observed from afar: visitors are encouraged to physically interact with the exhibition elements, shaping the space both visually and emotionally. The work foregrounds a direct relationship between body and environment, shifting attention from passive viewing to active participation.
Inside you will encounter a constantly changing paper landscape: the movement and gestures of visitors modify light, form and perspective. The experience is sensory and situational, aimed at those who want to explore the intersection of architecture, movement and fragile materials.
Where: BiM, Bicocca district, Milan.
When: presented as part of Milano Art Week; check official event or venue channels for dates, times and access details.
Before visiting, verify whether reservations are required, accessibility options and opening hours on the BiM website or the Milano Art Week official schedule. The work is intended for audiences seeking an immersive, participatory contemporary art experience.
