miart: 30th edition closes with strong international attention

On 19 April 2026 miart, the international fair for modern and contemporary art in Milan, concluded its 30th edition. Under the title “New Directions”, chosen for John Coltrane's centenary, the fair highlighted relationships between visual art and performative languages.

Key facts and highlights:

• Venue: South Wing, Allianz MiCo, Milan;
• Galleries: 160 participants from 24 countries;
• Works: more than 1,200 pieces shown across three main sections — Emergent, Established, Established Anthology;
• Innovation: the special project Movements introduced artist film and experimental video to the fair for the first time;
• Professional audience: a network of about 16,700 VIP contacts (collectors, art advisors, museum directors and curators), with a 20% increase in their attendance compared to the previous edition;
• International scope: 70% of VIPs came from 27 foreign countries; 28 cultural and institutional delegations attended;
• Partnerships: collaboration with ICE supported the participation of international collectors and journalists.

The fair also granted a series of awards, commissions and acquisitions to support artists and galleries. Selected works and prizes included contributions by Vivian Suter, Sergio Fermariello, Claudia Comte and Sung Tieu, alongside recognitions for standout installations and emerging projects.

miart therefore reasserts its role as a central platform for the contemporary art market and discourse, strengthening professional networks and increasing visibility for diverse artistic practices.
