Palazzo Medici Riccardi hosts an exhibition that retraces the creative ferment of the 1920s in Florence, when the city emerged as a hub for applied arts, fashion, design and decorative arts.
Curated by Lucia Mannini and promoted by the Metropolitan City of Florence with Fondazione MUS.E as organiser, the show brings together objects and artworks — from ceramics and glass to textiles, furniture, jewelry and stage costumes — to recreate the cultural climate and international influences that shaped Florentine Déco.
The exhibition highlights important contributions such as Gio Ponti’s work for Richard-Ginori, pieces by Galileo Chini, experiments by Thayaht and the luxurious silks sought after by writers and collectors of the time. Posters, manufactured goods and couture items demonstrate how Florence modernised its traditions while engaging with avant-garde trends and the international market.
The exhibition offers a broad, non-localised interpretation of Florentine Déco: it is suited to those who want to explore the intersections of decorative arts, industry and society in the 1920s, with special attention to textile, ceramic and designer jewellery excellence.
The layout is designed to immerse visitors in the moods of the 1920s, appealing both to design history enthusiasts and to those curious about Florence’s impact on the international Art Déco movement.
