On 8 May 2026 the Palazzo dell’Arengo became the setting for a series of initiatives celebrating World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day, focused on solidarity, civic education and humanitarian culture.
In the palace garden students from the “Ceci” and “Fermi” institutes read aloud the Principles of the Red Cross, followed by a symbolic presentation of the Italian Red Cross flag to the mayor of Ascoli Piceno, Marco Fioravanti.
A highlight for younger visitors was the “Ambulance for toys” project, an educational and playful activity that helps children become familiar with emergency response in a reassuring way, turning the ambulance into a welcoming space and volunteers into trusted guides.
The programme continued in the Hall of Victory, where the local Red Cross president met institutions, students and citizens. Lawyer Cristina Perozzi delivered a historical and legal overview of the Movement’s origins and the role of international humanitarian law in crisis situations.
The Red Cross banner was displayed on municipal buildings during the day to symbolize the association’s auxiliary role alongside public institutions. The event carried the institutional message “An Italy that helps”, aiming to strengthen cooperation between the Red Cross, local authorities and schools to build stable networks of solidarity.
For those interested in historic sites, the event highlighted the Palazzo dell’Arengo as a civic and cultural venue suited to events that enhance the city’s monumental heritage and community memory.
