Palazzo Bonocore: cultural events at a historic monument in Palermo

On 9 and 10 April 2026, the historic Palazzo Bonocore in Palermo will host two cultural events that bring current social and cultural debates into a monument setting.

9 April – Documenting the war in Ukraine

The first session, Thursday 9 April at 17:00, focuses on contemporary modes of documenting and preserving the memory of the war in Ukraine. The panel discusses how digital technologies shape the production and circulation of images, videos and eyewitness accounts, raising ethical, historical and legal questions.

  • Main speakers: photographer Igor Chekachkov; historian Iryna Klymenko (Ludwig Maximilian University); Oleg Rumyantsev (University).
  • Moderators: Kateryna Filyuk and Olena Moskalenko.
  • Topics: source reliability, what to preserve for memory, the role of images in collective remembrance.
  • Reference work: the photobook 100 Days of War will be a starting point for discussion on visual and narrative representations.

10 April – “Women Writing the Present”: female cultural leadership

On Friday 10 April at 17:00 the series “Women Writing the Present” opens. The programme highlights the role of women across publishing, writing, theatre and film, and examines their contribution to cultural debate, including issues linked to artificial intelligence and new technologies.

  • Curator and host: Maria Giambruno La Porta.
  • Opening guest: author Ilaria Guidantoni, discussing themes from her book The Kiss to Unfold (translated title for reference).
  • Panel contributors: Elisabetta Di Stefano (esthetician), Ilaria Grippaudo (musicologist), Stefano Jossa (Italian studies), Rita Marchese (Latinist).
  • Performance: a theatrical moment by the group “Non siamo poetesse”, directed by Anna Laurà.
