Numismatic section reopens at MANN: starting 25 May

The National Archaeological Museum of Naples reopens its numismatic section with an updated display that highlights one of the most important coin collections worldwide. The renewed exhibition is available to visitors from 25 May.

The MANN Medagliere stands out not only for the number of items but also for the chronological range and variety of issuing mints. This reopening was made possible by an extraordinary grant from the Ministry of Culture, which enriched the display with additional finds.

  • More than 6,000 coins already preserved in the Medagliere;
  • Recent additions: 130 pieces of jewellery and four extremely rare golden textiles;
  • Exhibition curated by Renata Cantilena and Floriana Miele, with scientific collaboration from Lucia Amalia Scatozza on ancient jewellery.

Museum leadership describes the renewed section as a narrative device that goes beyond a simple collection: it traces a route through time and space from ancient Greece to Italy and other regions of the Roman Empire, covering popular markets as well as major Renaissance courts.

The reopening crowns sustained research and conservation efforts, offering visitors enhanced interpretative tools and precious additions that enrich the museum’s numismatic heritage.
