Museum and School Join Forces to Enhance the Carlo Alberto Carutti Collection

Agreement between the Municipality of Cremona and I.I.S. “Antonio Stradivari”

An official collaboration aims to strengthen ties between museum heritage and local education. The goal is to enhance the Carlo Alberto Carutti Collection, on loan to the Museo Civico Ala Ponzone, through research, study and educational programmes for students and the public.

Main commitments and planned activities

The protocol outlines roles and responsibilities to facilitate scientific access and cultural promotion of the collection. Key actions include:

• Municipality: allow study of instruments for research and the creation of replicas; provide existing documentation on the collection; add a linking page on the Cremona Musei website.
• Antonio Stradivari Institute: develop teaching materials and exhibition support; lend reconstructions or historical replicas free of charge for temporary displays; organise auditions and lecture-concerts for schools and the general public.
• Promote teaching of plucked instrument making within the school curriculum and award educational credits to students participating in coordinated study sessions.
• Permit scientific investigations in the Institute's laboratories and produce detailed graphic records for each instrument in the collection.

Safeguards and operational rules

Study, analysis and reproduction activities on items from the Carutti Collection must receive prior authorization and be carried out under the supervision of the appropriate conservators. The agreement also foresees joint public and educational initiatives that leverage the Institute's technical expertise alongside the Museum's custodial role.

Connected to the initiative, the series “Corde antiche – The Carlo Alberto Carutti Collection” returns with lessons-concerts and meetings at the Museo Civico Ala Ponzone scheduled from March 16 to May 17. These events are aimed at schools, musicians and the wider public.
