Autore: Redazione 25/03/2026 06:53

Week at Rome's civic museums (27 March - 2 April 2026)

The municipal superintendent has scheduled a varied programme across Rome’s civic museums: new exhibitions, lectures, free guided tours, accessibility-focused meetings and evening shows at the Planetarium. Several events are free or for MIC Card holders; many require prior booking.

Highlights for 27 March

  • Casina delle Civette (Villa Torlonia): opening of an exhibition that traces the creation of the Italian Republic emblem by a post-war artist, on display through September 2026.
  • Museo Napoleonico: afternoon lecture presenting new research on a wall painting linked to a Raffaellesque cycle; free entry subject to seat availability.
  • Ara Pacis: launch of a multimedia videomapping project that reconstructs original polychromy of the monument. Audio guides in Italian and English; sessions Friday–Sunday between 20:00 and 23:00 in small groups (max 25 participants).

Weekend and weekly programme

  • Saturday 28 March, 09:30 – Visit to the Mithraeum at the Circus Maximus as part of the municipal archaeology programme; limited availability, booking required.
  • Sunday 29 March, 11:30 – Visit to the Ostiense burial site (entrance from Parco Schuster); reservation needed.
  • Sunday 29 March, 11:30 and 16:30 – Free guided tours of the exhibition Greece in Rome at the Capitoline Museums (Villa Caffarelli), in Italian and English; places limited.
  • Tuesday 31 March – A packed day with sessions on museum accessibility, book presentations and MIC Card events including LIS interpreters at several sites.
  • Thursday 2 April, 11:00 – Curators at the Carlo Bilotti Museum introduce the exhibition featuring the Valerio De Paolis collection (limited attendance).

Accessibility and inclusive services

The week includes meetings and practical workshops on inclusive museum access, focusing on approaches for visitors with autism and guided visits with sign language interpreters in different venues. These are often free but with restricted capacity.

Planetarium shows

The Planetarium offers a mixed programme for adults and children during the weekend: adult shows cover topics such as the Voyager missions, the aurora borealis, stellar evolution and cosmic ecology; family sessions include interactive planet tours and storytelling with educational characters. Check updated timetables and ticket prices before attending.

Practical information

  • For many events booking is recommended: call the central info line at 060608 (daily, 09:00–19:00).
  • Several activities are reserved for or give priority to holders of the MIC Card.
