Monte Bibele: new measures to relaunch the archaeological park

The Monte Bibele Archaeological-Naturalistic Area, located in Monterenzio (BO), is undergoing a reorganisation aimed at strengthening protection, accessibility and the cultural offer. Changes affect both site management and practical interventions to improve safety and visitor experience.

Management and aims

Recent administrative moves include terminating the agreement with the University of Bologna and proposing management by a local association in partnership with the Municipality. The public debate calls for clear plans for archaeological research, conservation and medium- to long-term promotion.

Planned actions

  • Cultural programme: a calendar of lectures, guided tours and outreach activities, with events already scheduled for the coming period.
  • Seasonal events: the Yunka Festival is planned with strong participation and a repeat edition scheduled in autumn to broaden the seasonal offer.
  • Transport services: municipal shuttles will operate on event days to ease access from Monterenzio to the park.
  • Infrastructure: works to restore roads and damaged trails, supported by PNRR funds and local contributions to secure the paths.
  • Local planning: the 2026-2028 Single Programming Document includes promotion of the Fantini Museum and consolidation of infrastructures among its priorities.

Practical tips for visitors

Before visiting, always check the official calendar published by the Municipality of Monterenzio or the association managing the park. In particular, verify:

  • Times and procedures for guided visits;
  • Availability of shuttle services on event days;
  • Condition of trails and accessibility, especially after adverse weather;
  • Any openings or activities at the Fantini Museum linked to park events.
