Materia Madre / Lingua Madre — Erica Ravenna Gallery (Rome)

The Erica Ravenna Gallery presents the group exhibition Materia Madre / Lingua Madre, curated by Benedetta Carpi De Resmini. The show examines matter and language as living processes — not mere subjects to be depicted, but active forces of transformation and regeneration.

The exhibition arranges four contemporary practices in dialogue, all reflecting on nature as a generative origin and a shared matrix of meaning.

• Artists on display: Cyril de Commarque, Laura Pugno, Gaia Scaramella and Lucia Veronesi.
• Materials & techniques: wood, sand used as painting pigment, monotypes, embroidery, ceramics and paper sculpture.
• Main themes: metamorphosis, the boundary between organic and cultural, pre-verbal identities and ecological aspects of transformation.

Highlights include wooden sculptures and paper works that carry territorial memories, Laura Pugno’s Persuasioni series made with sand to probe coastal equilibria, and Gaia Scaramella’s Matribus ceramics — small anthropomorphic figures suspended between birth and fall.

Lucia Veronesi uses monotypes and embroidery to turn scientific language into a poetic vocabulary that makes once-lost plant species visible again; Cyril de Commarque translates environmental data and natural traces into essential, primordial forms.
