Plans are taking shape in Palermo for the centenary of Rosa Balistreri. On Sunday 19 April at 18:00 the "Manifesto for Rosa" can be signed at the Navarra Editore stand in Piazza Bologni as part of the Via dei Librai book fair.
The initiative, promoted by the Fondazione Made in Sicily together with the Fondazione Rosa Balistreri and the Municipality of Licata, has already gathered support from regional and cultural institutions including the Sicilian Region, the Teatro Massimo of Palermo and the Conservatory of Trapani.
Titled "Singing Sicily, narrating the human", the manifesto sets out guiding principles for the celebrations: active remembrance, promotion of the Sicilian language and culture as a tool of identity and resilience. It also highlights themes of freedom and female independence embodied by the singer-songwriter from Licata.
The manifesto aims to be an operational starting point for a collective cultural movement that renews and spreads Rosa Balistreri's artistic legacy across the region. Citizens and artists are invited to sign and take part in the shared program.
