May at the Archaeological Park of Herculaneum

The Archaeological Park of Herculaneum has scheduled a series of activities for May aimed at visitors of all ages: themed tours about Roman food culture, special openings for national holidays and new educational routes on the myth of Hercules designed for families.

Main program

• 1 May 2026 – Last appointment of “Places of Food in Herculaneum”

  A themed visit exploring food habits in ancient Rome: thermopolium, domus, bakeries, the Ancient Beach and the Boat Pavilion. The tour also presents findings from recent anthropological studies at the site.

  • Times: 10:00–11:00 (Italian tour) and 11:30–12:30 (English tour)
  • Groups: max 25 people per shift
  • Cost: activity free with the regular park admission ticket
  • Reservations: available via CoopCulture
• 1 May 2026 – Labour Day: regular opening

  The Park will observe its standard opening hours.

  • Opening hours: 8:30 – 19:30 (last entry 18:00)
  • Admission: paid according to standard rates; reductions and free entries as per regulations
• 3 May 2026 – #domenicalmuseo: free entry

  As part of the ministry initiative, the Park and Villa Sora will be open free of charge for the entire day.

  • Admission: free for all visitors
  • Free guided visit to Villa Sora (Torre del Greco) by the Gruppo Archeologico Vesuviano: 10:30–12:45

• 8 and 15 May 2026 – “Hercules in the city”: mythological itinerary for families

  Two family-oriented events featuring a narrative route dedicated to the hero Hercules, presented through frescoes and public buildings with an engaging, child-friendly approach.

Exhibitions and practical tips

We recommend combining your visit with the exhibition “From the egg to the apple. The civilization of food and the pleasures of the table in Herculaneum” at Villa Campolieto (Corso Resina 283). An integrated Park + exhibition ticket is available for a fuller experience.
