What is Madre Natura EduCamp and where it takes place

Madre Natura EduCamp is an outdoor education project hosted in the ancient beech forest of Faggeto, in the Caprese Michelangelo area (Valtiberina). The program offers experiential paths designed to reconnect people with nature, develop practical skills and strengthen personal and social awareness.

Goals and approach

The curriculum merges multiple disciplines to deliver a transformative, hands-on experience. Main goals include:

• Reconnecting participants with their natural environment through practical activities;
• Teaching practical skills such as basic wilderness survival techniques;
• Supporting personal growth and relationships via awareness exercises and play-based pedagogy;
• Encouraging reflection on technology use to promote conscious habits and reduce social isolation.

Content and activities

Programs combine practical workshops and theoretical insights: shelter-building and campcraft, basic ethnobotany and medicinal plants, group exercises for emotional regulation, play activities for all ages, plus meditation and biodanza sessions. The method aims to build autonomy and environmental stewardship.

Who can join

Participants come from Italy and abroad (including Spain, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Tanzania, Kenya and Chile). Courses are tailored by age and experience level, with options for children, teens and adults.

Accessibility and special events

To increase inclusivity, the project is collaborating with Italian Sign Language (LIS) interpreters for a national event scheduled on May 1–3. Professionals are engaged to adapt activities for participants with different needs.

Partners and support

The initiative is supported by local and regional partners and is led by instructors experienced in environmental guiding, survival training, education and holistic practices. Institutional backing has helped emphasize the forest as a central, formative setting.
