Lorenzo Balbi departs MAMbo and brings Morandi to Shanghai

After nine years as director of MAMbo in Bologna, Lorenzo Balbi is stepping down; from September 2026 he will head the Civic Museums of Verona. His farewell coincides with the international launch of “Giorgio Morandi. Solo”, the largest exhibition dedicated to the Bologna-born artist abroad, hosted at the Museum of Art Pudong, Shanghai.

The Morandi exhibition amplifies Bologna’s international cultural presence and opens the artist’s work to new audiences in China.
