Skyler Chen at Casa Masaccio: "Imitation of Life"

Casa Masaccio presents "Imitation of Life", the first solo show by Taiwanese artist Skyler Chen in a public institution. Curated by Marta Papini and produced in collaboration with the MASSIMODECARLO gallery, the exhibition stages a critical encounter between Western pictorial tradition and contemporary visual references.

What to see

Chen's works borrow compositions and proportions reminiscent of 15th-century painting but disrupt them with incongruous details: written texts, enlargements, everyday objects and pop culture references. These interventions transform familiar images into prompts that question memory, desire and identity, with particular focus on queer and Asian diasporic experiences.
