Le Vie delle Foto in Trieste: a month of citywide photography exhibitions with over 150 photographers

Trieste will host the 14th edition of Le Vie delle Foto, a photographic initiative that turns the historic centre into an open-air gallery. For the whole of April, more than 150 photographers from around the world will exhibit individual projects in cafés, cultural spaces, venues and hotels across the city.

The format encourages exploring the city on foot, combining art, tourism and local promotion. In addition to the exhibitions, the programme includes public events, artist talks, portfolio reviews and educational activities designed for both residents and international visitors.

Highlights of the 2026 edition include:

• Guided tours every Saturday in April: themed walking routes to discover exhibitions and the urban landscape.
• International exchanges featuring photographers from the Fokus Award of Tirana (April 10-12) and festival delegates from Brazil and other countries (April 13-19).
• Special sessions: a Wikimedia Italy day on image use and rights (April 14), portfolio reviews and meetings with representatives of IPFA.
• Territory-focused activities: a photographic tour in Cava Romana, collaborations with sailing events, and a World Water Day exhibition (afternoon of April 12).
• Complementary cultural projects: photo book presentations, portfolio selections for future shows and a motors-themed exhibition organized with a local club.

Local venues are an active part of the event, offering tastings and storytelling tied to Trieste's cultural traditions during guided tours. Each site will display details on how to access the festival's official podcasts, providing an audio guide that deepens visitors' experience of each exhibition.

The festival also maintains a strong social commitment: since 2016 Le Vie delle Foto has supported charitable initiatives and projects addressing public interest themes, working closely with local associations.

Today the project stands as one of the major photographic events in Northern Italy, with growing international relevance supported by collaborations with festivals and networks abroad.
