Lazio: record figures and measures to boost audiovisual sector

The strategy of the Fondazione Roma Lazio Film Commission was presented at the Italian Pavilion in Cannes, aiming to reinforce Lazio’s role as a European audiovisual hub by linking film production with tourism and territorial development.

Key measures include:

  • Production numbers: in 2024–2025 Lazio hosted about 271 audiovisual works (128 feature films, 95 series/miniseries, 42 documentaries and 6 TV films), 79 of which had an international dimension.
  • 2026 funding: overall allocation nearly €30 million, an increase of over €7 million; higher grants for festivals and strengthened calls for international coproductions.
  • Lazio Cinema International: maximum grant raised from €1M to €2M per production; requirement of a definitive coproduction contract at application stage; accelerated timelines tied to tax credit requests (request within 4 months and shooting start within 6 months from concession).
  • Innovative tools: the Find My Location platform with 10 pilot areas, location manager tours for promotion and a new Production Guide mapping companies, crews and locations across the region.
  • Tourism tie-ins: audiovisual content will be a core asset in territorial promotion, including the announced Festival of Tourism Excellence in Lazio, scheduled between October and November in Rome.

The Foundation highlights that internationalisation and digital services are essential to attract foreign productions and showcase Lazio’s natural, archaeological and artistic assets.
