Langhe, Roero and Monferrato: hill villages come alive with open-air art

Open-air art across Langhe, Roero and Monferrato

Orma. Tracce d’artista in Langhe Monferrato Roero turns over 60 hill villages into a large open-air museum between May and November 2026. The initiative brings together previously separate art events into a single, long-term program of installations, exhibitions and artist residencies that connect art with local communities and landscape.

Highlights and locations

Key projects and sites to include in your visit:

  • Resté (Langhe) – a contemporary art trail that combines permanent interventions with the cultural landscape in Diano d'Alba, Montelupo Albese, Rodello and Cerretto Langhe.
  • Prospettive/Perspectives (Roddino and Neviglie) – a cross-border program addressing sustainability and landscape protection; in Roddino you can find a mural by Liam Gillick and Hito Steyerl.
  • Creativamente Roero – artist residencies across Antignano, Castellinaldo d’Alba, Govone and San Martino Alfieri, with public events on 16 and 24 May 2026.
  • Canelli – from June 2026 will host a work by Maria Theresa Alves inside the historic underground wine cellars, part of the UNESCO site.
  • Site-specific installations are also present in Govone, Diano d’Alba and many other villages, forming a lasting, distributed exhibition.

Why go

The program offers a chance to experience contemporary art rooted in local contexts: works interact with architecture and countryside, while residencies and participatory practices engage residents and visitors. It’s also an opportunity to explore lesser-known villages ahead of the area’s role in Alba Contemporary Art 2027.

Practical tips

  • Plan travel between towns: exhibits are spread across many municipalities; a car or local transport planning helps.
  • Check specific event dates (for example, Creativamente Roero events on 16 and 24 May 2026).
  • Join guided visits and artist talks to deepen your experience.
  • Respect the sites: many works are integrated into communal spaces and daily life.

When: May to November 2026.

Where: over 60 municipalities across the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato hills (Piedmont, Italy).
