KINSHUN – Golden Spring: a solo exhibition by Yuriko Damiani

Opening date: 13 May 2026 (inauguration at 18:00)

Venue: ANVI by Rocco Bellanova, Rome

“KINSHUN – Golden Spring” showcases the work of Yuriko Damiani, an Italo-Japanese artist working primarily with contemporary porcelain. Curated by Alessia Bennani and included in the Contemporanea – Rome Gallery Weekend 2026 programme, the show stages a dialogue between Eastern and Western sensibilities through materiality, form and poetic references.

Highlights

The exhibition centers on works created for the Italy–Japan anniversary. Key elements include:

  • Uovo Special Edition: a series that reimagines the egg as a symbol of birth and metamorphosis;
  • Pieces such as The Transformation and the Rebirth, which combine malachite, sun motifs and lotus flowers to explore inner change;
  • Custode delle Radici, pairing burl wood with cherry blossoms to evoke memory and impermanence;
  • Works inspired by haiku and classical Japanese literature, turning each object into a contemplative moment.

Technique and approach

Damiani employs distinctive methods like the so-called "third firing" and a personal technique named "Ancient Japanese Gold with Under-Gold". These processes create layered luminosity and connect notions of time, memory and transformation. The exhibition also juxtaposes Western philosophical ideals such as Kalòs kai Agathòs with Japanese aesthetics like Wabi-Sabi and ethical references from Bushidō.

Why attend

“KINSHUN – Golden Spring” functions as a symbolic bridge between cultures, encouraging visitors to slow down and appreciate beauty as an inner experience. The works’ material richness and contemplative framing make the show relevant for those interested in contemporary ceramics and cross-cultural artistic practices.
