From Saturday 2 May 2026 the Andrea Ponti Museum on Isolino Virginia will be open to the public. Part of the Civic Museums of Varese, the site preserves remains of one of the oldest pile-dwelling settlements in the Alpine arc and is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site.
The museum path has been rearranged to provide a clear and engaging interpretation of prehistoric life on the island. Highlights include:
From May, the Isolino is accessible on weekends. A boat service from the Biandronno pier runs on Saturdays and Sundays with multiple departures between 10:30 and 18:00. The landing can also be reached from the cycle-pedestrian path on Via Marconi.
Guided visits are available for groups and schools. For information and bookings contact: [email protected].
The island also reopens its on-site restaurant, managed locally, offering visitors a chance to combine the cultural visit with a meal.
Bouys and protective measures have been put in place to safeguard the archaeological remains and the natural setting. Visiting the site provides a unique opportunity to experience history within a well-preserved lacustrine landscape.
