Innesti Contemporanei: contemporary theatre in small towns

The eleventh edition of Innesti Contemporanei returns, bringing contemporary theatre to small towns in the province of Catanzaro. Curated by the Associazione Nastro di Möbius, the festival engages the communities of Squillace, Borgia, Gasperina and Stalettì to create lasting cultural connections.

The festival favors informal venues and close-to-home programming, turning historic sites into stages and promoting audience participation through repeated performances and site-specific events.

  • April 13–19 – Casa delle Culture, Squillace: opening with actor Gerri Cucinotta and his new piece Gratta e vinci, produced by Con i Miei Occhi. The monologue addresses everyday unease and weaves images of memory and tenderness. There will be three daily showings at 17:00, 18:00 and 19:00, allowing multiple visits and varied audience experiences.
  • April 23 – Palazzo Mazza, Borgia: at 19:00 the comedy Tre donne e uno sciatore will be performed, featuring Fedora Cacciatore, Angela Gaetano and Sabrina Pugliese, directed by Saverio Tavano (produced by Vacantusi and Lighthouse).
  • May – the festival continues with additional contemporary theatre and performance events across the participating villages.

Free entry. The project is co-funded by the Piano di sviluppo e coesione (PSC) 6.02.02 under the "Distribuzione teatrale" call by the Calabria Region – Department of Education, Training and Equal Opportunities, Culture Sector.

Practical tips: arrive early due to limited seating in historical venues, check local schedules for updates on times and repeat performances, and follow the host sites' guidance. The festival is an opportunity to rediscover Calabrian villages through theatre and community engagement.
