Ines Valentinitsch. Fluid Venus

Where: Palazzo Mora, Venice — When: 9 May 2026 – 22 November 2026

Ines Valentinitsch’s Fluid Venus is presented at Palazzo Mora as part of the 61st International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale. The project brings together watercolours, recent glass sculptures and performative actions to investigate the body as a fluid, ambiguous territory.

Valentinitsch's painting focuses on figures that resist fixed categories: bodies of uncertain sexual belonging or, conversely, emphatically declared — often depicted with ambiguity. Watercolour treatment softens contours and amplifies a sense of dissolution, foregrounding the vital and sensual dimension of human presence.

Since 2025 the artist has worked with glass, producing sculptural blocks that echo her pictorial language. The transparency of glass reproduces the watercolor’s soft quality and reveals streaks of pigment that read like veins, creating a striking tension between abstraction and bodily suggestion.

Complementing the static works are performances in which painting arises from live observation of a performer: Valentinitsch records posture changes and bodily pulses, transcribing them onto large canvases and surfaces on the floor. These silent dialogues between movement and mark underline the close bond between gesture and pictorial trace.

In short, the show stages a coherent exploration across media — watercolour, glass and performative painting — centered on sensuality, transformation and the poetic ambiguity of the body.
