Opening of the new Visitor Centre at the WWF Lago di Alviano Reserve

When: Tuesday 21 April 2026, inauguration ceremony at 15:30. Where: Madonna del Porto, Guardea (TR), Italy.

The new Visitor Centre at the WWF Lago di Alviano reserve opens following a collaboration between the Umbria Region, the Regional Forestry Agency of Umbria (AFoR) and the WWF Italy Foundation. Located within the Tevere River Regional Park, the centre is designed to support sustainable access to the protected area.

Visitor Centre facilities

• Spaces for environmental education, seminars and public workshops;
• Coworking areas available to the local community for training and project work;
• Facilities built with sustainability criteria and powered by solar energy;
• A hub for excursions and birdwatching in the reserve’s nearly 900 hectares of wetlands.

Event schedule

• 15:30 – inauguration ceremony with institutional greetings and ribbon cutting;
• 17:30 – guided tour of the reserve led by WWF (reservation required).

About the reserve: The Lago di Alviano Reserve, established in 1990, covers about 900 hectares of wetlands and is designated as a Site of Community Importance and a Special Protection Area, crucial for migratory birds and breeding species.

The Visitor Centre enhances educational and outdoor offerings in the protected area and supports participatory management projects and Natura 2000 network activities.
