Mann leads training for African cultural operators

The National Archaeological Museum of Naples (Mann) is among the Italian institutions taking part in the residential phase of the International School of Cultural Heritage, an initiative promoted by the Ministry of Culture and the national School of Heritage. The programme, aligned with the Mattei Plan for Africa, aims to strengthen professional skills and institutional exchange between Italian cultural bodies and practitioners from the Mediterranean and African regions.

  • Participants include directors, officials, curators, conservators, librarians and archivists from 12 African countries (Algeria, Angola, Congo-Brazzaville, Ivory Coast, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Morocco, Mozambique, Senegal, Tanzania, Tunisia).
  • Schedule: an initial online phase and a week in Rome (20–24 April 2026), followed from 27 April by a month-long residency across six Italian museums.
  • Participating institutions: Museum of Civilizations (Muciv), Archaeological Parks and Museums of Praeneste and Gabii, National Archaeological Museum of Taranto (Marta), National Archaeological Museum of Naples (Mann), National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria (Marrc), National Archaeological Museum of the Agro Falisco and Forte Sangallo in Civita Castellana.
  • Final event: 22 May 2026 in Rome at the Ministry of Culture.

Minister Alessandro Giuli highlighted the programme's role in promoting cultural diplomacy as a tool for dialogue and cooperation. Gerardo Villanacci, president of the national School of Heritage, noted that the broad network of museums demonstrates the national cultural system’s capacity to coordinate international cooperation and specialist training.
