The Hidden Castle in the Village: Guided Tour into Raggiolo’s Past

With the arrival of spring the Raggiolo Community Centre reopens, resuming its role as an information and welcome point in one of Tuscany’s most picturesque villages. Managed by the cooperative Oros and funded through PNRR resources, the infopoint in Piazza San Michele will be open during spring holidays to assist visitors and walkers.

Infopoint opening hours:

  • Easter: Saturday 4 - Monday 6 April
  • Liberation Day: Saturday 25 - Sunday 26 April
  • Hours: 9:30–12:30 and 15:00–18:00

The infopoint offers maps, publications, suggested routes, insights into local traditions and practical information about the main historical, cultural and natural attractions in the area.

Guided tour: “The Hidden Castle in the Village”

To mark the reopening, cooperative Oros organises a free guided tour led by archaeologist Riccardo Bargiacchi. The meeting point is Piazza San Michele at 11:00 on Monday 6 April. The walk winds through squares and alleys to reveal traces of the Conti Guidi and to explain Raggiolo’s importance in the 14th century as a centre of metallurgical activity, including ironworking and weapon production.

Highlights and local features connected to the Guidi castle that will be pointed out along the route include:

  • the Coro
  • the Sepolcreto
  • the Bastia
  • the Sportico
  • the Girone

The tour is free. For information and bookings send a message to 370/13.18.284 or email [email protected]. Comfortable footwear and suitable clothing for narrow streets and stone pavements are recommended.

Beyond the scheduled openings and guided walk, Raggiolo is an excellent base for short walking routes, cultural discoveries and panoramic stops, perfect for travellers seeking an authentic village experience in Tuscany.
