Giotto and Saint Francis. A revolution in 14th-century Umbria is the exhibition currently on display at the Galleria Nazionale dell'Umbria in Perugia, opened on 3 March 2026. The show reconstructs the artistic season that transformed visual culture in Umbria from the late 13th to the early 14th century.
The route is organised into eight sections and brings together more than 60 works by key figures of the period, including Giotto, Simone Martini and Pietro Lorenzetti. The exhibition is curated by Veruska Picchiarelli and Emanuele Zappasodi and has attracted visitors from across Italy.
The show highlights Perugia and Umbria's role in the development of early Trecento innovations, with works that evidence the transition to new expressive forms and devotional narratives connected to Saint Francis.
Visitor tip: allow at least 1–2 hours for the exhibition and consider guided tours or educational materials offered by the gallery for deeper context.
