On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March, Aosta takes part in the FAI Spring Days with special openings and guided tours at three historic locations in the town centre: the Arch of Augustus and its surroundings, Palazzo Barillier and Palazzo Lostan. Visits are free and do not require reservations.
Tours run on both days according to the published times. It is advisable to arrive a few minutes early to facilitate entry. Last admission times are indicated for each site.
The walk led by FAI volunteers follows the ancient eastern access to Augusta Praetoria, including the Roman Bridge, the Arch of Augustus, the chapel of Saints Sebastian and Roch, the former mill-granary in the Ponte di Pietra quarter and Casa Motta-Rossa. The route highlights historical continuity from the Roman foundation through later periods up to the twentieth century.
Hours: Saturday 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00 (last admission 17:30). No booking required.
This elegant 18th-century palace on Via Croce di Città was commissioned by the merchant Claude-Michel Barillier and now houses the BREL (Bureau Régional Ethnologie et Linguistique), with photographic, sound and audiovisual collections related to regional memory and culture. The splendid Sala degli Stucchi will be open to the public during the event.
Hours: Saturday and Sunday 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00 (last admission 17:00). Visits without reservation.
Dating back to between the late 15th and early 16th centuries and built over the site of the Roman forum, Palazzo Lostan has been recently restored. The visit starts in the internal courtyard, continues among the evocative remains of the Roman forum and includes a climb to the medieval tower, ending in the tourism assessor's office with its richly frescoed ceiling.
Hours: Saturday and Sunday 10:00–12:00 and 14:00–18:00 (last admission 17:00). Meeting point at Piazza Severino Caveri. No reservation required.
All tours are free and open to the public without prior booking. Check locally for any last-minute changes due to weather or operational reasons. Please arrive on time to help groups run smoothly.
