FAI Spring Days in Calabria: what to see

On Saturday 21 and Sunday 22 March 2026 the Italian Environment Fund (FAI) holds the 34th edition of the FAI Spring Days. The national event allows visitors to explore numerous historic sites with a voluntary contribution. In Calabria the programme includes noble palaces, churches, urban routes and, for the first time, historic industrial facilities normally closed to the public.

Why attend

Donations collected during the event finance restoration works and the promotion of heritage managed by FAI. The initiative relies on volunteers and school groups to offer guided tours and educational paths that highlight local history and architecture.

Highlights in Calabria

  • Mongrassano – GIAS: exclusive visit to the production chain of the company known for its cold-peeling tomato process; special access for FAI members.
  • Montalto Uffugo – Molino Bruno: a guided route showing the milling process from grain to different flours.
  • Sant'Andrea Apostolo dello Jonio – Palazzo della baronessa Scoppa: historic salons, family portraits and period furnishings.
  • Sant'Ilario dello Jonio: a walk through the town's alleys and noble residences, including the Casino Speziali and its rural museum (member-only opening).
  • Strongoli: itinerary from the cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul to churches, noble palaces and the historic castle.
  • Vibo Valentia – Palazzo di Francia: a rare opportunity to visit a private noble residence still inhabited by descendants; access for FAI members to gardens, reception rooms and the painting collection.

Practical information

Visits are by voluntary contribution. Certain openings are reserved for FAI members, so pre-registration is recommended to secure access. The event is organised in collaboration with local and national institutions and involves volunteers and schools for dedicated educational programmes.

Useful tips:

  • Check FAI announcements for specific schedules and meeting points for each site.
  • Register in advance if you plan to attend member-only visits.
  • Wear suitable clothing for indoor visits and outdoor walks.
