National Day of Historic Homes 2026: free openings

When: Sunday, 24 May 2026

The 16th National Day of Historic Homes offers exceptional openings of privately owned historic residences that together form Italy's largest distributed museum. In Tuscany more than 90 sites — palaces, villas, castles, parks and gardens — will be open to the public free of charge.

Highlights in Tuscany and Florence

  • Number of participating sites in Tuscany: over 90 (10 in Arezzo, 36 in Florence, 1 in Livorno, 12 in Lucca, 20 in Massa Carrara, 12 in Siena, 5 in the Terre di Pisa area).
  • Selected openings in Florence: Palazzo Pazzi Quaratesi, Casa Torre Consolato Sultanato Oman, Villa Fontallerta, Villa L'Ugolino, plus historic palazzo courtyards and gardens.
  • In Lucca and surroundings: Villa Clerici Triklinea, Fortress of Montecarlo, Villa Forci; in Massa Carrara: Rocca di Monzone and the Garden of Love.

Why attend

The initiative aims to raise awareness about protecting and enhancing privately owned historic properties. This edition's theme, "Guardians of the future. A living heritage for shared value", stresses the role of active stewardship to keep these sites valuable and accessible to local communities and future generations.

Practical information

  • Entry: free for the scheduled openings (hours and access rules depend on each site).
  • Visitor tips: check updated opening times and any access requirements before travelling; many sites feature outdoor spaces and courtyards suitable for safe visits.
  • Conservation: the Day is also an opportunity to learn about preservation projects and the associations working to maintain these historic assets.

For detailed information on individual sites, schedules and access, consult the official association website or local information channels.
