Earth Day in Gualdo Tadino: “Even Trees Have a Name”

An educational outdoor event will take place on April 11 at Valsorda, aimed at reconnecting young people with woodland ecosystems. Organized by the local naturalistic association ANG together with ASD Ski Club Valsorda, the initiative brings students and youth athletes into the forest under the guidance of naturalists and forestry experts.

The core activity involves identifying and naming trees: each selected tree will receive a wooden plaque bearing its scientific (Latin) name and common name. The program combines field observation with short expert talks to explain the biodiversity of the Apennines and the role of forests in environmental health.

• Participants: students from the “Raffaele Casimiri” upper secondary school, pupils from the local comprehensive schools, young players from Basket Gualdo Tadino and other youth groups.
• Leaders and speakers: naturalists, forest technicians and representatives from the Regional Forestry Agency of Umbria; presentations on ecosystem services and environmental education.
• Main activities: guided walk in the Valsorda valley, species recognition (bark, buds, leaves), installation of wooden name plaques and distribution of illustrated educational sheets.
• Support: local companies and associations contribute to logistics, refreshments and materials.
